Artist Statement:
All my life, I’ve been an artist. I still keep my first watercolors, paintings I made at two and a half years old, tucked into the last pocket of my portfolio. I was born into a Puerto Rican household in the Bronx, the daughter of two criminal defense lawyers, both of whom had a serious appreciation for the arts. I grew up with Wassily Kandinsky paintings hanging on the walls. His were the first watercolors that made me fall for the medium.Whether visual, physical, vocal, or verbal, art is beyond censorship, political correctness, and societal norms. Art is one of the most fulfilling and effective venues through which someone can bring about change in the world at large, yet it also speaks to the soul. Art embeds itself not only in the mind, but in the heart, and forces a viewer, reader, or listener to engage in more than just thought, but in feeling. My work has finally developed a theme, and with it a sense of purpose. I’ve never limited myself to one medium or subject matter as I like to explore, to learn, and to constantly grow.
